about

After hearing Joyce DiDonato and the violas of the Met Opera orchestra perform Handel's “Ombra mai fù” in memory of one of their colleagues during the Met's 2020 virtual gala, this simple idea from a much earlier time made a reappearance. What if it weren't a montuno, as I'd always thought of it in the past, but a plaintive aria of loss and memory. Mostly violas on this one, with my "Bergonzi" viuolin sketching a melody that could be sung instead. The melody came last.
